AIIMS Bhubaneswar achieved a remarkable feat by successfully removing a 7kg tumour from the scalp of a 51-year-old man from West Bengal.
Rabindra Bisui had been battling the tumour for 25 years, with its size worsening over the past seven months, greatly impacting his daily life.
A team of experts from various departments at AIIMS Bhubaneswar collaborated to tackle this challenge.
The multidisciplinary team included professionals from surgical oncology, neurosurgery, interventional radiology, and anaesthesiology.
The tumour, identified as a Synovial sarcoma, presented significant complexity due to its rarity and aggressive nature.
Following a 10-hour-long surgery, Rabindra emerged victorious, expressing profound gratitude to the medical team, whom he likened to divine saviours for restoring his health.
Executive Director of AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, Ashutosh Biswas, celebrated the triumph, noting the absence of post-operative complications and the complete eradication of the cancerous growth.
