Orange alert for heatwave in Palakkad
A yellow alert has been sounded for some areas of Kollam and Thrissur districts.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued an orange alert in the Palakkad district due to the continued possibility of a heatwave in the coming days.

Anticipating mercury levels to cross 41 degrees Celsius, the state government has announced the closure of educational institutes in Palakkad and has instructed people to be cautious while venturing outdoors.
Thrissur and Kollam are also likely to experience temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius from April 29 to May 3.
The government extended the rescheduled working hours of labourers till May 15, and Minister V Sivankutty warned of strict action against employers if labourers were found to be working during the daytime from 12 pm to 3.00 pm.
The State Disaster Management Authority also warned against the possibility of fire outbreaks in markets, buildings, and dumping yards.
