Washington: Pakistan has been re-elected as a member of the UN Human Rights Council.
The election comes amid protests by multinational organizations that 'Pakistan should not be allowed on the council for human rights abuses.'
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, "Pakistan was re-elected with a majority of votes in a vote in the UN General Assembly to elect members of the UN Human Rights Council."
The statement said that this shows the confidence of the world community in Pakistan's contribution to the protection of human rights at home and internationally.
This is the 5th time that Pakistan has emerged as a member of the Human Rights Council since its inception.
