Chilliwack: There have been two fires in the Lower Mainland this week.

One person was killed in a house fire in Chilliwack on Saturday and another in a fire in Kokitlam on Wednesday night.

The latest fire broke out just after 7 a.m. Saturday at a house in the 8700 block of Butchart Street in Chilliwack.

Firefighters came to see the flames coming from the basement window of the single-family apartment. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, but later found a man dead in the basement.

The blaze on Saturday claimed another life in Coquitlam earlier this week.

Coquitlam RCMP is investigating the cause of a fire that caused extensive damage to a home Wednesday night in the 3300 block of McTavish Court.

The identity of the victim in the Coquitlam fire has not been released.
