Death toll rises to 126 after six earthquakes rock Tibet

.

Six earthquakes, including a powerful 7.1 magnitude tremor, struck Tibet on Tuesday, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. The seismic activity, centered in Tibet's Tingri County, caused widespread panic as buildings swayed across the region, with tremors felt as far away as India, Nepal, and Bhutan.

Initially, reports indicated fewer casualties, but as rescue teams combed through the debris, the death toll climbed to 126, with more than 188 people reported injured. The early-morning quakes caused significant structural damage and left several communities grappling with the aftermath.

Tingri County, situated along the collision zone of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, is no stranger to powerful seismic activity. The region's geological conditions often result in earthquakes capable of altering the heights of some of the Himalayan peak. Several buildings also collapsed near the epicentre, according to Chinese media.
