At least 24 migrants drowned and presumed dead after a boat carrying them to Europe sank in the Mediterranean Sea off Libya, the UN migration agency said on Sept 15.
Safa Msehli, a spokesperson for the International Organization for Migration, said that three boats were carrying the migrants and Libya's coast guard intercepted all boats on Monday.
"One of the boats capsized," she said, adding that the coast guard retrieved two bodies and 22 others were missing and who are presumed dead.
At least 45 survivors on the three boats were returned to the shore. All migrants were men, with a majority from Egypt and Morocco, she further said.
