Sri Lanka: Dr. Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu, co-coordinator of the Center for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV), said the turnout was low in the general election.

He said the spread of the coronavirus may prevent more voters from going to the polls.

He noted that despite the 83 per cent turnout in the last presidential election, the chances of a very low turnout in the general election this time around are slim.

Dr. Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu (Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu) said, "Due to the spread of coronavirus infection, a significant number of seniors are not interested in voting and at the same time, many people think of abstaining from voting due to the frustration of the chances of getting elected."
