Sri Lanka: We welcome the rise of the Amarapura Peetha, the Ramanya Peetha, the Buddhist Peetha and the Catholic Bishops' Conference against the dictatorship of the government led by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake said.
All religious chapters and religious organizations must stand with us and end the anarchic rule of this state, he further said.
"The High Court ruling on the 20th Amendment to the Constitution is a prime example of the dictatorship of this state. However, if the Rajapaksa government makes amendments to the 20th Amendment and puts it to a vote in Parliament, we, along with the opposition, will oppose it," the JVP leaster and Colombo parliamentarian said.
"Buddhist chaptersand other religious organizations, including the Catholic Episcopal Conference, should not only hold press conferences and issue statements against the 20th Amendment, but also take action," he said.
