Ottawa: Health Canada warns Canadians to be wary of hand sanitizers in non-traditional packaging that resembles baby food and snacks.

In a statement released Friday, Health Canada reported that some companies are packing hand sanitizers in squeeze pouches with cartoon designs to attract children.

"Squeeze pouches are commonly used for fruit puree snacks or baby juices. If they are not monitored, some children can easily become confused about alcohol-based products and snacks," the company said in a statement.

"Parents and guardians should be especially vigilant about these products because children may accidentally misinterpret them for edible products and consume them," the report said.

The company did not say if there were any cases of children accidentally consuming hand sanitizer due to packaging confusion, but they are currently monitoring the situation.
