Police will be on duty from next August 3, ahead of next week's general election

Sri Lanka: ˜Two-thirds of the police deployed at the Nallur Kandaswamy Temple annual festival will be withdrawn next week and the army will be on duty.

The annual festival of Nallur Kandaswamy Temple started last Saturday with flag hoisting. The festival will conclude on August 20 with the Diamond Shanti Festival.

Police are engaged in roadblocks and security measures for devotees at the Nallur Kandaswamy Temple. Police will be on duty from next August 3, ahead of next week's general election.

"Due to this, two-thirds of the policemen deployed at the Nallur Kandaswamy Temple festival will be recalled and the army will be heavily on duty and the procedure will be in place for a week," it said.
